Problem Plants
The two main problem plants that we treat are Eurasian watermilfoil and filamentous
algae. These
problem plants make it difficult to swim, fish and boat in the lakes. Swimmers
can become entangled in the weeds and drown. Fishermen get them caught on
their lines. Boat motors overheat, causing costly repairs. Sailboats and canoes
can't go through the weeds and get stuck. The cause lake water to stagnate. They also create an unattractive shoreline,
decreasing property value.
Eurasian water milfoil
Eurasian water milfoil is an invasive, exotic plant species that has taken over lakes throughout North America. It is a submersed, perennial plant that forms colonies in deep waters that move toward the shoreline. In shallow waters, it creates a dense canopy that prevents native aquatic plants from getting sunlight. Eurasian water milfoil spreads quickly through fragmentation of plant tips and root expansion.More information about Eurasian water milfoil:
